Hospitality House Celebrates Five Years at Brook Hollow Road Location in Boone

Hospitality House recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of its move to “new” location 338 Brook Hollow Road. After twenty-seven years in downtown Boone, at 302 W. King Street, the organization moved to into a much needed upgrade on March 18, 2011.

“I remember that day well,” stated former executive director Lynne Mason. “We had had back-to-back weekends of winter weather that put us behind, we were all anxious to get moved in.”

In 2007, after undergoing an organizational assessment that included three old downtown buildings being used to provide housing, the board of directors embarked on an ambitious Capital Campaign to raise the funds necessary for a new 18,500 square foot facility.

“I started with the agency as director of services five months after the move,” stated current executive director Tina Krause. “I was hired to develop programs based on the specific needs of the individuals and families that filled up this big, new building. Having nearly three times as many residents, including a lot more children, meant having to ramp up what we offered in order to fulfill our mission.”

Joining Krause and Mason for a celebration of Earth Fare snacks and a cake donated by Lowe’s Foods at New Market were current and former staff members, residents and board members.

“This place is so special and it means so much to Frank and I,” stated current board member and Capital Campaign board chair Kay Borkowski. “To know where we were and to see how far we have come is a blessing. I am grateful for this place, it is in my heart.”
