Both Watauga and Avery County Schools are closed on Wednesday due to “expected snow and the prospect for rapidly deteriorating road conditions,” according to an announcement by the schools on Wednesday morning.
With two to four inches of snow expected on Wednesday and another foot to two feet expected Thursday night through Saturday night, the road conditions, especially on the secondary roads, aren’t expected to be any better on Thursday or Friday.
“With all the attention on the winter storm this weekend, it’s important not to ignore the snowfall this afternoon and tonight. While amounts will be light, the snow will fall during the evening rush and may cause some travel issues. Use caution if traveling this afternoon and tonight,” according to the latest Facebook post by the National Weather Service regional office in Blacksburg, Va.
