Women’s Fund Collects, Distributes More than 1,000 Pounds of Food for Local Families

The Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge recently completed its second annual “Pack the Pantry” food drive, collecting and distributing more than 1,000 pounds of food to local families just in time for Christmas.

Food items are collected and sorted for distribution after the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge completes its annual Pack the Pantry food drive.

Organized by Billie Howell and Emily Stallings of the Women’s Fund Development Committee, the Pack the Pantry program alleviates food shortages during this season of giving, when in particular many children are hungry because they are out of school, where they’re provided free lunch.

“We’re grateful not only to the many individuals who brought food, but to the local businesses who helped,” said Howell. “We could not do this without help from Creekside and Yadkin Bank.”

Lane Robinson of Creekside Electronics loaned the Women’s Fund the Creekside Company van to hold the donated food, and Mary Louise Roberts, vice president of marketing for Yadkin Bank, arranged for space in the Yadkin lot to park the van.

During the month of December, dozens of generous donors brought food to the van. Howell and Stallings invited representatives from Hospitality House of Boone, the Hunger and Health Coalition, Ashe Sharing Center and Feeding Avery Families to divide the collected food.

The Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge exists to create positive change and economic justice for women and girls in local counties. The local Women’s Fund has granted over one million dollars to local non-profits over the past ten years for programs that improve the lives of women and girls.
