Proper
Ring in 2016 with a Southern celebration you won’t soon forget at Proper for “home-style southern cooking with a modern, seasonal slant.”
Proper’s owner, operator and head chef Angela Kelly said the New Year’s Eve dinner will give you a chance to experience the restaurant at its absolute best.
“It’s a different menu, so we get to play around with things a little bit more and we always have fun when we do that. That’s why our Sunday brunch menu is so great, because it’s different from what we do the rest of the week. We really enjoy getting to step away from that every once in awhile and it gives us a chance to play around with food, which we love to do.”
Kelly has designed a special menu for the NYE dinner, which will feature pickled North Carolina wild caught shrimp, fried oysters, sorghum dijon spare ribs, stuffed acorn squash, tostones (crispy fried plantains), bread pudding and so much more.
“I’m really excited about the vegetarian stuffed acorn squash. Our menu is typically sort of meat-driven, being southern, and people sometimes forget that southern vegetables are delicious, as well,” Kelly said. “I also get excited anytime I get to do tostones. I’m pretty excited about the whole thing.”
Kelly also looks forward to offering Benne wafers, or sweet, crisp sesame crackers, along with Proper’s house made pimento cheese for a favorite southern staple.
The special New Year’s Eve menu will be served from 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and reservations are required.
Dinner will be priced at $45 per person or $65 per person with wine pairing.
Check out Proper’s website for the full NYE menu.
Proper is located at 142 S. Water St. in downtown Boone. Call the restaurant at 828-865-5000 to make your reservations.
Vidalia
Celebrate in style with dinner on the town at Vidalia Restaurant and Wine Bar in downtown Boone. Join Chef Samuel Ratchford for dinner between 5-9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and reservations are required.
Enjoy dinner at $60 per person plus tax and gratuity, and add the perfect wine pairing for just $35.
The menu will include items like winter squash soup, shrimp ceviche toast, truffle mac n’ cheese, roasted smoked duck, pan seared salmon, chocolate mousse, Stick Boy sweet potato brioche and so much more.
“We are always excited about New Year’s in general because it’s a great chance to do something different. Sam’s pretty excited about the shrimp ceviche toast because it’s his take on a dish we tried on a vacation in Charleston,” said General Manager Alyce Ratchford. “He is always excited about smoked duck and mac and cheese, and both of those are on the menu. Salmon is something new for us, too.”
The New Year’s Eve dinner will offer the same high quality experience that people know and love about Vidalia, as well as an upscale feel in a comfortable environment.
“The atmosphere has a sophisticated feel about it, but it is still comfortable and inviting. You don’t have to be positively dressed to the nines,” Alyce said. “You can still expect to have great service and a good time, but you don’t have to feel like you’re sitting in a stuffy restaurant in order to get it.”
