LETTERS / Government Sells The Belief That You Control It And That It Delivers Some Social Good

Dear Editor,

“A Patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.” Edward Abbey

“When good people stand around watching an evil continue or grow and do nothing about it, they condone it by their inaction”. Mark Twain

National Geographic did a 2002 global geographic literacy survey. More than 10% of American adults between the ages of 18 and 24 couldn’t identify America, 30% couldn’t identify the Pacific Ocean, and 87% couldn’t identify Iraq. Americans cheer the bombs without knowing where they fall.

“Consumers” make excuses for their own actions and inactions, but won’t admit that they consent to things like the following, and more: the Fourth Amendment, protecting you from arbitrary government action, is violated in your house, on the road, in the airport and on the sidewalk, daily. This doesn’t begin to explore asset forfeiture. If you attempt to defend yourself you’ll be arrested. If you resist arrest you’ll be beaten. If you defend yourself against attack you’ll be shot. This is known as the rule of law.

We’ve all heard: “I voted for someone who promised change. What am I supposed to do?” That excuse doesn’t change your consent to corruption every day. Once-free Americans have been conquered without a shot being fired, because they assume that government is honorable, and trustworthy.  Government is only as honorable as you make them be. If you don’t choose defend your god-given rights, by definition and action, you’re a slave.

Some alternatives involve acting illegally, but you still consent. The alternative being unpleasant doesn’t change the fact that you’re accepting illegal acts daily: in 1776 the alternatives involved attacking the government. This isn’t promoting violence but insisting that you admit that you’re consenting to criminal government and that you be honest with yourself, and others. Honesty is a prime requirement of a civilized, rational people, but some choose the worst sort of lie: self deception.

Violent rebellion isn’t necessary because the status quo is collapsing. Most Americans do nothing anyway because they’re too stupid to realize what’s happening or they’ve been conditioned and/or drugged into various states of complacency. One answer is to starve the fascist beast of the fuel it needs to continue its evil ways. Reduce or stop using credit, live within your means, escape mindless consumption and realize your TV “news” lies. Boycott the national voting fraud. Nothing will end this corruption until you refuse to participate.

Government sells the belief that you control it and that it delivers some social good. Have you seen a monopoly power controlled? Leaders create realities that increase their powers towards achieving their own aims. “Consumers” accept government authority and believe the lies.

Americans choose to believe that “their leaders” honestly have the best interests of the nation as their goal. The flag wavers refuse to see thru this. Uncritical, all consuming Patriotism is destructive. By accepting popular media’s manipulation and distorted history lessons, the forces of global power are virtually unopposed.

Some are so full of what they know that they have no space left to learn new things. You know politicians lie but believe yours don’t. When the story is American crimes, the Empire’s “news” won’t give the story any coverage if it can’t be proven in court.  If the story is about the crimes of those we oppose any rumor or fabricated “news” will do.

Those splashing their car bumpers with nationalism such as “The Power of Pride” are silent in the face of the Empire’s crimes like the “Good Germans” in the 1930s and 1940s.

We hear “terrorist” used to describe those in opposition to the “man”. People are labeled terrorists for juvenile threats made on Facebook. It’s a story the ruling class has worked hard at pounding into “consumers” heads. The Terror War is now the foundation of America. Since we’re at war, “patriots” accepted things like the Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security, with regular warning about “terrorists” of all flavors. It’s brought us Drone “wars”, Assassinations, and torture.

The Terror war is one that can’t ever end: there’s always terror. “Consumers” willingly accept that. By accepting the tale that terrorists threaten America “consumers” accept that we’re at war in America. War rules allow Constitutional changes so anyone they want is locked up.

“It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. All you have to do is tell them that they are in danger of being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.” Hermann Goering

We don’t understand our wars because we’re considering them from the viewpoint of the “consumer”, not as the ruler with agendas.

Governments are more concerned with their ability to control citizens’ activities than they are with solving their discontent. There must always be a balance of power between the governing and the governed. Our natural rights aren’t granted by government. Government privileges are only those which we allow. Governments don’t reform themselves.

“Our government” defines democracy as a system that elects the people it prefers.  If an election doesn’t choose what America wants, the Empire refuses to recognize it. We saw this clearly in the Gaza Strip, where the freest, fairest election ever held in the Arab world resulted in Hamas coming to power. America immediately refused to recognize it.

Americans are expected to defer to the national-security establishment. Conscience, reason, and independent thinking are abandoned to the judgment of “our” national-security state. “Consumers” say “our national-security state” officials know what’s best. Trust them. Don’t ask questions. Secrecy must be maintained. “National security” is at stake.

No matter what the Empire touches, they end up with Libya or Iraq. America is a serial country destroyer. Iraq has been dismembered, Libya is a no-go zone, Syria is a humanitarian disaster, Egypt is a military dictatorship. The latest fiasco is Yemen, where the pro-American government was overthrown. The Empire’s fiasco in the Ukraine prompted the Russians, and Chinese, to notify the Empire it’s gone too far.

Congress passes laws denying the popular will regularly. Ninety percent of Americans want GMOs labeled but congress is preventing that. Congress is in the process of consenting to the “trade” bills: TPP and TTIP, which are NAFTA on steroids, favoring corporate privilege at your expense. Show us when “our government” has acted as the popular will preferred. We ask for immigration controls, constitutional war policies and are ignored. We don’t want Israel to be supported in their crimes and are ignored. To these and other criminal government acts, “consumers” consent by inaction, while bragging about “our democracy”.

Obedient Germans gave the world it’s most destructive war acting no different than Americans are, as “government” wages countless wars for profit, and tortures/assassinates those who don’t accept their slavery.  “Consumers” hate those government/media tells them to hate, and applaud whatever they’re told.

We should submissively fall in line, because the government will protect us, as they’ve done so often in the past. We’ll never need to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government like those crazy old white men who wrote the Constitution.

Democracy is dead. Your vote and your voice don’t matter. No group understands this as well as the Greeks, who like Americans, vote for something, and get something else. Contented slaves avoid thinking and know no higher law than their master’s will.
