Weekly live music events continue in the High Country as summertime lingers in the air. Whatever sound you’re looking for, there’s a local concert just for you! Here’s a list of concerts slated for this weekend:
Soul Benefactor in Banner Elk on Thursday
Soul Benefactor is a familiar band to Banner Elk concertgoers and this will be their third year playing in the park. They play funk, soul and rock from the 60s and 70s. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. in Tate-Evans Park. Concert goers should plan to bring chairs, blankets and picnics or enjoy food from vendors at the park.
The JJL Band in Newland on Friday
The JJL Band is a three-piece power trio from Hickory NC. Made up of Jamie Trollinger on guitar, and vocals, June Annas on bass, and vocals, and Larry Gragg on drums, and vocals. Covering a wide variety of blues, classic rock, and Americana style music, such as The Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles, Van Morrison just to name a few, as well as original music. See them at the Riverwalk Park and Bandshell below Lowe’s Foods in Newland on Friday from 6-9 p.m. In the event of rain, the concerts are moved to the rock gym at Avery School.
Sound Traveler, Steve and Ruth Smith at the Jones House on Friday
Sound Traveler, a husband-and-wife duo, performs acoustic versions of rock and pop covers, classic standards, country and bluegrass favorites, R7B and blues hits, gospel songs, and even some original compositions. Steve and Ruth Smith, another husband-and-wife duo, are longtime favorites of Jones House concertgoers. Music begins at 5 p.m. on the lawn at the Jones House in downtown Boone.
Soul Benefactor at Music on the Lawn on Friday
Catch Soul Benefactor and their funky sounds for a second time this week at the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock on Friday. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the cash bar and special lawn menu. The Music on the Lawn concert will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The Sheets Family Band at Music in the Valle
Don’t miss the Sheets Family Band this weekend! The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Valle Crucis Community Park. No admission, although $5 donations to the park per person are recommended. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets!
Drayton and the Dreamboats at Linville Falls Winery
Grab a glass of wine and check out who’s playing at Linville Falls Winery this weekend. Enjoy the vocal jazz and vintage pop sounds of the Asheville-based group, Drayton and the Dreamboats! Music starts at 3 p.m., so get ready to take in the beautiful views at Linville Falls Winery and enjoy the afternoon with live music and a drink in your hand.
