You’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy “the Sounds of Summer” this weekend as local outdoor concert series continue. Let loose and unwind with one or more of these live music events going on in the High Country over the next few days.
Doc Watson Day Celebration at the Jones House on Friday
Don’t miss the special fifth annual Doc Watson Day celebration at the Jones House in downtown Boone on Friday night. Watson remains in the hearts and minds of the community, and his life, his music and his legacy will be celebrated in Friday’s events. Performances begin at 4 p.m. and will feature the all-girl string band Buck Stops Here, the Honey Chasers, John Kirby, Patrick Crouch and Watson’s long-time friends Charles Welch and Jack Lawrence.
The Harris Brothers at Music on the Lawn on Friday
Kick back and enjoy the sounds of regional favorites The Harris Brothers at the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock on Friday night at this week’s Music on the Lawn event. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the cash bar and special lawn menu.
The Swing Set at Music in the Valle on Friday
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Valle Crucis Community Park. No admission, although $5 donations to the park per person are recommended. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets!
Jeremy Autry and Crossing Avery in Newland on Friday
A series of 10 free back-to-back concerts for the entire family begins this week in Newland with the Friday Night Riverwalk Concert Series. Performances will take place from 6-9 p.m. at the Newland Riverwalk Park and bandshell below the Lowes Foods parking lot. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to the gym of the Avery school. This week, check out the new country sounds of Jeremy Autry and Crossing Avery.
Buck Haggard at Todd Summer Music
Bring a lawn chair or a blanket to Cook Memorial Park to enjoy a performance by Buck Haggard at the first summer concert of the season hosted by Todd Community Preservation Organization. The concert will take place from 6-8 p.m. and food off the grill, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Darlyne Caine at Linville Falls Winery on Saturday
Grab a glass of wine and check out Darlyne Caine at Linville Falls Winery on Saturday afternoon. Don’t miss this performance from 3-6 p.m. for a chance to take in the beautiful views at Linville Falls Winery and enjoy the afternoon with live music and a drink in your hand.
