Don’t miss “the Sounds of Summer” this weekend as local outdoor concert series kick off for the season. Let loose and unwind with one or more of these live music events going on in the High Country this weekend.

Michael Reno Harrell, The King Bees at the Jones House

The summer concert series on the lawn at the Jones House in downtown Boone continues this week beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday. Singer/songwriter/storyteller Michael Reno Harrell brings music and narrative together for a performance you won’t forget. The swingin’ blues sounds of The King Bees will keep you dancing all night.

Soul Benefactor at Music on the Lawn on Friday

Check out “the High Country’s favorite party band” Soul Benefactor at the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock on Friday night at this week’s Music on the Lawn event. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the cash bar and special lawn menu.

Letters to Abigail at Music in the Valle on Friday

Take a walk in the park and enjoy the Appalachian/Americana sounds of Letters to Abigail at this week’s Music in the Valle event. Some folks describe their music as simple southern pleasure. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Valle Crucis Community Park. No admission, although $5 donations to the park per person are recommended. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets! You won’t want to miss this one.

Peter Brown at the Bayou Smokehouse on Saturday

Check out Second Saturday festivities in Banner Elk this weekend, including a courtyard concert with Peter Brown at the Bayou Smokehouse and Grill. The Bayou will also offer a wine tasting in its Bayou General Store. Visit the Bayou online for more information.
