Nov. 14, 2014. Below-freezing temperatures and light precipitation this morning created some potentially hazardous road conditions for some High Country drivers. Watauga Roads and Conditions has reported several reports of slick areas this morning, and there have been a few accidents so far.
At 6 a.m., Watauga Roads and Conditions received reports of slippery roads in the western and southeastern parts of Watauga County, especially in the areas close to the Avery County line. Though winds have not presented a problem so far, the below-freezing temperatures this morning, as well as the overcast skies, have kept some areas slick through the morning.
As of 8 a.m., Watauga Roads and Conditions reported that some scattered click areas still remained, though no reports of major trouble areas impacting high volumes of traffic have been reported yet. As of 10:15 a.m. there have been several reports of slick roads on Deck Hill and Snaggy Mountain. The slick road conditions led to Watauga and Avery County schools to operate on a two-hour delay this morning.
“Today has increasing sunshine, but unseasonably cold temperatures. Cold weather lasts through Saturday with slight moderation in the afternoon,” reported Ray’s Weather.
