Nov. 11, 2014. Tickets are now available for BeanStalk Community Theatre’s upcoming holiday Production, “Christmas in Oz, Y’all!” The show follows Dorothy and Aunt Em, of Wizard of Oz fame, as they are transported to the North Pole. There, the duo meets a whole host of holiday characters who will help Dorothy get home.
The show will be presented Dec. 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Harvest House Performing Arts Venue in Boone.
The production is managed by Director Amy Beane, Stage Manager Mel Grant, Costume and Prop Designer Elizabeth Cole, Lighting Designer Doug Hall and Sound Designer Travis Wallace.
“I have always loved The Wizard of Oz, and I wanted to put a North Carolina twist on it,” said Amy Beane, director of the production, who also wrote the play.
“This is truly going to be Oz like you have never seen it before. All of the characters from the movie have been replaced with Christmas characters, and we have added other characters too.”
The show is unique because the cast is made up of only children between the ages of 4 and 17.
The cast list is as follows: Lindsey Cole as Aunt Em, Alice Knight as Dorothy, Hannah Trafz as Dorothy (understudy), Will McKinney as Mr. Dill, Andrew Cole as Wilbur, Gwendolyn Anderson as Dumpy, Lilly Coggins as Greasy, Rayna Christian as Slappy, Emily Grant as Mopey, Lilly Fairbanks as Lashful, Zoa Archer as Creepy, Hallie Lovin as Bach, Emma Hudspeth and Hannah Trefz as Bibbitys, Kazia Orkiszewski and Sidra Miller as Bobbitys, Sarah Trefz and Madelyn Ellis as Boos, Zack Cole as Jack Frost, Andie Waugh as Frosty the Snowman, Willa Rupp, Mia Stacy and Caroline Wood as Cupcakes, Catie Phillips as Tree 1, Sarah Toub as Tree 2, Hannah Wood as Tree 3, Peyton Walton as The Nutcracker, Aidan Beane as Pole R. Bear, Will McKinney as the Rat King, Julia Banks as Clara, Sydney Morrison as Charlotte, Zeb Scott as Opey, Raylen Christian as Elfvis, Barry Beane as Santa, Hannah Wood as Dasher, Sarah Toub as Dancer, Bailey Whitehead-Price as Prancer, Julia Banks as Vixen, Will McKinney as Comet, Abbie Anderson as Cupid, Catie Phillips as Donner, Ellie Grill as Blitzen and Sydney Morrison as Rudolph.
Rats will be played by Max Woolard, Taz Orkiszewski, Daniel Wood, Alexandra Newmark, Elsie Saltman, Sam Coggins, Zeb Scott, Raylen Christian and Linsey Cole. Soldiers will be played by Hannah Wood, Sarah Toub, Claire Buford, Bailey Whitehead-Price, Abbie Anderson, Catie Phillips, Ellie Grill and Grayson Scott. The Gingerbread Army will be played by Taz Orkisweski, Claire Buford, Daniel Wood, Elsie Saltman, Grayson Scott, Sam Coggins, Willa Rupp, Mia Stacy, Caroline Wood and Alexandra Newmark.
BeanStalk Community Theatre presented its first production in 2012.
“I grew up here, but I was living in Conover for about 15 years,” said Beane. “I was a theatre teacher and I came up here during the summers to help direct plays. When I moved back, I really wanted to do more, and we really wanted to work with kids in theatre. In 2012, we had our first Christmas show and it has just evolved from there.”
