What’s New at the Farmers’ Market? Shopping at Horn in the West on Saturday, Oct. 1

The market operates from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday this summer at 591 Horn in the West in Boone.

On Saturday, Oct. 1: the App State Mountaineers will be hosting the Georgia State Panthers at 12:00 noon.  Come by the Market on your way to the game and fill your basket with wonderful goodies for the game from our outstanding bakers, fresh fruit from local orchards, and outstanding produce from our farmers for the best pickins in all of the High Country.  No worries about parking as there should be plenty of spaces in the lot for our Market customers.Saturday will be another fun day at the Market, especially at Kid’s Corner!

Faith Mountain Farm – Sourwood honey and summer wildflower now available!  Variety of breakfast muffins, cinnamon rolls, scones, granola, whole grain breads, and chewy balls along with gluten free options for scones and muffins and usually a cake (strawberry, chocolate, or coconut).  Local varieties of spring and summer honey from our apiaries.  Zinnias.  Garlic.

Sunshine Cove Farmcertified organic – Microgreens, collard greens, dino kale, butternut squash, and assorted peppers.

Springhouse Farm – Pastured pork including a wide selection of breakfast and specialty sausages including piggy links! Certified organic butternut, acorn and jester squash, lettuce, cherry tomato mix, and shoshito peppers. Stop by for some samples.

Owens Farm – Eggplant, Bell Pepper, Jalapeno & Cayenne Pepper, Kennebec Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Winter Squash, White Half Runner Beans.

Fire From The Mountain – Butter lettuce, Romaine, Beets, Carrots and a little arugula, a variety of Sweet and Hot peppers , Fingerling potatoes, Garlic, Leeks and the last of the Basil from the Farm and of course we will have our Signature Chipotle Salsa and Smoked Habanero BBQ Sauce, Enchilada and our four hot sauces.

Moretz Mountain Orchard & Farm – Raspberries (provided weather cooperates),Apples- MacIntosh, Sweet Rusty Coat,  Wolf River,  Green Pippin, Jonamac, Liberty,  Cortland,  Gala and Honey Crisp. Ozark Good, Wolf River, Gold Wof River, Winter Greening and N.W. Greening.  New Apple varieties- Yellow Bell Flower,  Rome Beauty,  Senator,  King Lucious, Northern Spy, Red Delicious,  Double Red, Empire and Golden Delicious.  Virginia Beauty, Sweet 16 (very complex flavoring), Grimes Golden, Jumbo and Mutsu.  Potatoes-  Kennebec and purple Winter Squash – acorn and butter nut. Seminole Peach butter and other jams and jellies, dried apples.  Hope to have the first sweet potatoes as well, but may not. Sweet Potatoes- red/Orange and white. Lively Up Farm – Specialty pumpkins and winter squash.  French Pumpkins, Jarrahdale pumpkin, Jack O lanterns, White pumpkins, Thai pumpkins, Acorn squash, Red Kuri Squash,  Cushaw Squash,  Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, Big Blue Hubbards, and Moranga a Brazilizan Pumpkin.  All heirlooms and started by seed by us from Bakers Creek Heirlooms Seeds.

Baskets and Bricks – – fall wreaths, bare root day lilies, flower bouquets, hand made baskets, garden bricks.

Against the Graincertified organic and Biodynamic summer squash, carrots, beets, tomatoes, strawberries, garlic, peppers, onions, dill, potatoes, and cornmeal.  We also have Animal Welfare Approved, gmo-free, pasture-raised pork and chicken.

Colibri – Specializing in fine hand-knotted necklaces made from well-loved to very unusual semi-precious beads. They are closed with wonderful magnetic clasps and are sold as a set with matching earrings. We are also the only ones I know who work with variscite (Look it up.). We also sell beautiful sterling wrapped pendants(including a cord so you can wear them away). We include an earring rack and a lovely bracelet section.

Blue Ridge Apiaries –  new crop of beautiful Sourwood Honey just harvested in Watauga County with complimentary tasting.  Also a full line-up of locally produced Wildflower, Basswood, and Goldenrod Honeys, in addition to Creamed Honey, Infused Honey, Bee Pollen, and Beeswax products.

Wishful Thinking Studio – Come meet Caron’s new angel “Joy”. Available Labor Day weekend in the center of the market. Caron Baker Wike, the Potter.

Tumbling Shoals Farm –  certified organic tomatoes (heirlooms Rose, last of the purples (Cherokee Purple Black Krim), Copia, and German Johnson, and beefsteaks), the famous sungold cherry tomatoes, sweet Italian peppers and red, orange and yellow bell peppers, a multitude of chiles from the trinidad perfume that isn’t hot to the hot lemon that is wicked hot, shishito peppers, New Mexican (a.k.a. “Hatch” or “anaheim”) peppers, poblano peppers, eggplant, okra, butternut squash, fresh cut mint and parsley.

Mountain Memories Farm – Along with all cuts of meat from both LAMB AND PORK, we will have ground beef and a HUGE VARIETY of SAUSAGES in LINK and bulk.  Exciting new sausage this week.  BOEREWORS (South African) is a blend of 3 meats, awesome flavor, and has NO SUGAR! Pottery by Remo – New wood-fired art pieces will be available this Saturday that were last fired in his Amagama wood kiln.
