Weather-Predicting Woolly Worms Will Go to the Races Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16

Oct. 4, 2016. The fastest worm at the end of Saturday’s races earns $1,000 and the right to predict the winter for the High Country. Smaller prizes are awarded Sunday. Festivities date to 1978 when a local magazine editor wanted to give the forecast based on the legend that a woolly worm’s stripes predict the severity of winter. A worm’s 13 fur bands represent the 13 weeks of winter. Brown bands indicate mild weather, while black bands indicate cold, snowy conditions.

Tickets Left for Tuesday Show with Fiddle-and-Banjo Duet Richie and Rosie at Jones House

Sept. 21, 2013. Richie and Rosie have collaborated together in various projects, such as Red Dog Run, over the past several years. After spending hours jamming together in Stearns’ kitchen, the two decided to form a duet act that allowed them to experiment with the traditional pairing of fiddle and banjo. Both players are steeped in traditional musical styles – of America and beyond – and both are also known for pushing the boundaries of roots music with their creativity and artistry.

No worries about parking as there should be plenty of spaces in the lot for our Market customers.

Wilkes County Agricultural Fair This Week at Rotary Fairgrounds in North Wilkesboro

Sept. 28, 2016. This year’s fair will feature more than 25 rides, a bicycle give away, E-Z ride, petting zoo, Buffalo Barfield’s unheard of style of music and comedy shows, miniature bull races, 4-H exhibits, and games and food on the midway. On Saturday a special event at the fair will be a lawnmower race. Racing begins at 6 p.m. A fairground admission ticket will also admit you to the lawnmower race.
