In celebration of it’s 23rd year, Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music is pleased to announce its 2016 Indoor Summer Concert line-up! With a nod to the tradition begun by its founder, Joe Shannon, Mountain Home Music will again present both regional and nationally known acts to folks here in the High Country.
This year’s series features such local favorites as the Cockman Family, The White Top Mountain Band, and the Jeff Little Trio. Nationally known acts such as National Public Radio’s Prairie Home Companion favorites, Robin and Linda Williams, and founding members of the Red Clay Ramblers – Craver, Watson, Hicks and Newberry will also make appearances this summer.

JSMHM director, Rodney Sutton, stated – “After 23 years, there are some traditions that have strong support from our audiences and we try and include these shows every year. We will kick off our Indoor Summer Concert Series with our Memorial Weekend Sunday show on May 29, as the Original Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys honor those who have died in service while defending our nations freedom. David Johnson will also bring a newer version of this “house band” to share the stage with the King Street Brass Band for the annual Fourth of July Grass and Brass Celebration. Our final national holiday show will feature Laurelyn Dossett, paying tribute to the working men and women of America, on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend”, Sutton added.
JSMHM will be welcoming two acts who will be making their first ever appearance on the MHM stage. Tom Saber, Brad Leftwich and Alice Gerrard are known internationally for their tight vocal harmonies and their command of the banjo, fiddle and guitar in rendering some nearly forgotten gems of old-time tunes and songs. This trio toured together for over 15 years as Tom, Brad and Alice and they bring over 12 decades of traditional musical performance experience between them to Boone. Also, making their debut on JSMHM this summer will be The Belfast Boys who now reside in Hickory. Alyn Mearns and Adrian Rice will share an evening of both traditional and original songs, witty stories and poetry from their native city of Belfast, in Northern Ireland.
All of the JSMHM concerts scheduled for the 2016 Summer Concert series are presented at comfortable, indoor climate-controlled venues, including the Harvest House Performing Arts Venue in Boone and the Blowing Rock School Auditorium in Blowing Rock. “We are proud of the consistent top-notch professional sound and indoor venues that we can offer to our audiences here in the High Country. The summer weather here in the mountains can be unpredictable, but folks know that our shows go on rain or shine”, says Sutton.
JSMHM is also rolling out a new Matinee Music Concert Series to compliment its regular summer shows. The matinees – two in the summer and one in the fall – will be shorter in length with reduced admission and will be presented at the Harvest House at 2:30pm on Tuesday, July 25, featuring Strictly Strings and Thursday, August, 26, with Little Windows. The third matinee will take place in the JSMHM Fall Concert Series in October. See our website for all the details.
Joe Shannon’s Mountain Home Music is a small 501-c-3 non-profit educational organization that honors the music, singing, storytelling and dance of the Appalachian Region. JSMHM ticket sales cover only a portion of the production cost of this concert series. The balance is underwritten by grants, membership fees, donations and sponsorships. More information on how you may honor a family member or other special loved one with a concert sponsorship can be found on the JSMHM website under the Sponsors heading.
