A New Home Comes With a New Season for Ensemble Stage, First Performance on June 16

By Katie Benfield

Due to a partnership with the Town of Banner Elk, the Ensemble Stage has found a new permanent home in Banner Elk at the Historical Banner Elk School which is located at 185 Azalea Cir. SE. Previous to this season, the Ensemble Stage was located in Blowing Rock, and this move has provided the organization with a year-round home in a beautiful auditorium in which the plays can be performed to their utmost qualities.

Ensemble Stage is a non-profit professional theatre that focuses its time and energy into performing plays that will culturally enrich and entertain the surrounding community. Its mission is to inspire, challenge and pique the imaginations of visitors and residents alike who attend the performances. Since October of 2009, Ensemble Stage has presented 72 productions and over 275 performances, and the numbers just keep on growing!

The 2017 Summer Season begins with a light-hearted and fun comedy, “A Star-Spangled Girl,” written by the most iconic playwright of the 20th Century, Neil Simon. This play goes from June 16-June 24. It is followed by a historical drama, “Mary and Myra” by Catherine Filloux, focusing on letters written by Mary Todd Lincoln, and you can catch it being performed from July 7-July 15. Soon after that, from July 29-Aug. 6, the Ensemble Stage will be performing a suspense thriller, “Switzerland” by Joanna Murray-Smith, that revolves around an interest becoming an obsession. The last show of the season occurs from Aug. 18-Aug. 26. It is a comedy mystery, “Art of Murder” by Joe DiPetrio, in which everyone wants to kill someone else but nobody has the brains to do it.

Tickets for the shows are on sale now for previous subscribers and members of the Founders Century Club. New subscribers will be able to purchase subscriptions to the summer series on Mar. 27. Season ticket prices for all 4 shows are $77 for adults and $69 for military/seniors/students.

Single show tickets will be available for purchase starting Apr. 25. Single show ticket prices are $22 for adults, $20 for military/senior/student, and $12 for kids (16 and under).

Along with the adult shows that Ensemble Stage will be performing, there is also a Kids Summer Saturday Theatre Series. Through this series, there will be two shows offered: “Rapunzel” on June 22 and July 24 and “The Tales of King Arthur” on July 8 and Aug. 5. This kids summer series will provide a comedic twist full of hi-jinx and twists that will keep children riveted and involved.
