Nature Photography Weekend Begins Today and Lasts Until Sunday, June 4, at Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain’s long-celebrated Nature Photography Weekend returns for the 2017 summer season! It begins today, June 2, and lasts until Sunday, June 4 at Grandfather Mountain. Regardless of skill, the Photography Weekend offers photographers of all walks of life, talent and focus to hone in on their skills and practice photography at one of the most beautiful locations in the High Country.

Throughout the weekend, participants will visit Grandfather Mountain to photograph beautiful scenery and amazing native animals during the day and hear presentations from the top nature photographers in the evenings.

This year’s speaker lineup includes: Charles Glatzer, David Marx, Mary Presson Roberts, Kendall Chiles and Kevin Adams.

Check-in will take place during the event from 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Friday, June 2, with late check-in from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, June 3. The location for Friday check-in is MacRae Meadows (Gate 3).

Images from Friday and Saturday excursions can be entered into an informal contest, with winners being announced at the conclusion of the weekend on Sunday. For the contest, participants will submit a digital copy of their photo on Saturday at 3 p.m. Each contestant selects three images to enter in any combination of four categories (Animals in Habitats, Animals in the Wild, Wildflowers, and Scenic) and two classes (beginner or advanced). Be warned, however, that the judges do not look kindly upon images that were not taken during the weekend shoot, contrived images or images that have been manipulated to the degree that they violate the spirit of the contest. However, images can be digitally touched up using computer software.
