Jessica Lang Dance to be Performed at Schaefer Center this Wednesday

Appalachian State University’s series, “The Schaefer Center Presents,” continues its 2016-17 season with a performance by Jessica Lang Dance on Wednesday, Feb. 87 p.m. at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Founded by world renowned choreographer Jessica Lang in 2011, Jessica Lang Dance’s work is a brilliant blend of dance and visual art. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for faculty/staff and retired faculty/staff and $10 for students. New York-based Jessica Lang Dance is known for repertoire rich with stunning movement and dynamic visuals that transforms classical ballet into emotionally engaging contemporary work. Hailed “a master of visual composition” by Dance Magazine, the Bessie Award-winning Jessica Lang choreographs to enrich and inspire audiences by immersing them in the beauty of movement and music.
 
The evening will open with Lang’s 2012 geometric piece “Lines Cubed.” Next on the program is “Mendelssohn/Incomplete” followed by an emotional duet, “Among the Stars,” closing the first half of the program. The second half of the program begins with Lang’s iconic piece “The Calling,” performed by a single dancer in a remarkable white gown. Closing the program is “Thousand Yard Stare,” in which Lang addresses the theme of war.

About the Residency
This performance is part of a collaborative project with the South Arts Dance Touring Initiative, involving residency activities by Jessica Lang Dance from Feb. 6 – 8. These activities have been made possible by generous funding support from South Arts, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Company members will hold masterclasses and 
meet with dance students at Appalachian and in community studios.
