The inaugural Fly Fishing Film Tour event, also known as F3T, will be hosted in the High Country on Friday. The film festival is aims to showcase the area’s wonderful cold water fishing culture and invite guests to join fly guides and shops, cold water conservation nonprofits, fly fishing enthusiasts and artists engaged in the fishing genre for a one night celebration of all things fly fishing.
A portion of proceeds will benefit the ASU Fly Fishing Club, which teaches students to fly fish, appreciate, protect and restore our natural cold water resources and foster a love of the sport in others. Follow the club on Facebook for updated information on their Chapter. Boone community members are encouraged to join the club as well.
Proceeds will also support Project Healing Waters, which is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. F3T will also serve as the kickoff for the High Country Camp Healing Waters, which plans to bring in military veterans with post traumatic stress disorder for a week at Chetola with their wives and families to learn the art of fly fishing and receive counseling.
This new camp is an effort made possible through a partnership between Project Healing Waters, Trout Unlimited, Chetola, the ASU Fly Fishing Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Brewery. We definitely will need help from the local fishing community to help with this effort.
The film tour will be held at the Schaefer Center on campus at Appalachian State University on Friday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the lobby will feature information from nonprofit conservation groups, light food and drinks including Appalachian Mountain Brewery beers available for purchase and live music from Rubber Checks. Local artists who work on fishing and water related artwork will be on hand to show off their work, too.
F3T films will be shown from 7-9:15 p.m. with 15-minute intermission halfway through the two hours of combined films.
The folks behind the upcoming brand new Boone Film Festival, set for February, will announce its first annual event during intermission.
Afterward, talk with vendors before the doors close at 10 p.m.
