On April 20, Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge will be holding their annual Grantee Luncheon.

Since the organization was created two years ago, the Women’s Fund has given away over $237,000 to local non-profits as part of their regular allocations cycle. Each August, many local non-profits apply for a grant from the Women’s Fund for their programs to help women and girls.

“Supporting local non-profits financially is at the very heart of what we do,” said Karen Sabo, Executive Director of the Women’s Fund. “We raise money from lots of generous donors through our membership drives, holiday appeal, and through our great annual event, the June Power of the Purse(r) luncheon.”url

At the Grantee Luncheon, the Women’s Fund invites guests to attend to hear from the non-profit agencies about the programs they run with the Women’s Fund grant money.

“I was a founder of the Western Youth Network thirty years ago, and now I’m pleased to be part of an organization that supports them financially,” said Jan Rienerth, board chair of the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge. “And we all love hearing the great stories at this event.”

As a condition of receiving their grants, organizations from the Community Care Clinic in Watauga County, to Ashe Family Literacy, to Mitchell County Safe Place (a domestic violence/sexual assault agency) must attend this Grantee Luncheon to report on the success of their funded program. Each agency has three minutes to describe their efforts and to relay the story of a particular woman or girl who was helped through the Women’s Fund support.

“I remind people to bring tissues. Some of these stories are really moving, and it’s a great way for our members and potential members to hear how we’re making the world a better place through their donations.”

This event is open to the public, and will be held at the Blowing Rock Conference Center. For reservations, contact the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge at 828-264-4002, or email info@womensfundoftheblueridge.

Tickets are $15, and can also be purchased through the website, www.womensfundoftheblueridge.org.
