Forty years of service to any community effort is a huge milestone, but four decades of service to the High Country and its victims of domestic abuse is an especially great achievement to celebrate.

The party is just days away and will be combined with the annual “Midnight at the OASIS” fundraiser for OASIS, the non-profit organization serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Watauga and Avery Counties since 1978.

The 15th Midnight at the Oasis will be held on Friday, May 18 from 7 – 11 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Inn & Suites in Blowing Rock. The signature event will feature live music by Soul Benefactor with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a Middle Eastern themed food and a cash bar. A photo-booth will be set up to capture those favorite moments throughout the evening. Guests will also have the opportunity to hear success stories from survivors here in the High Country.

One hundred percent of proceeds raised at this event will be used to operate OASIS’s confidential, emergency shelter for victims and families fleeing intimate partner violence. As a spokesperson for the organization said, “Working together, we can break the cycle of violence in our community.”

OASIS, the acronym for what the organization does best —Opposing Abuse with Service, Information, and Shelter — serves hundreds of clients and children each year. All OASIS services are free and confidential and includes the following: a 24-hour crisis line in English and in Spanish, crisis counseling, temporary, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent supportive housing, case management services, information and referrals to community resources, legal and medical advocacy, support groups and prevention programs.

Tickets to the event are $40, which includes a commemorative wine glass for attendees.

Sponsorships are still being accepted on gold, silver and bronze levels.

The Meadowbrook Inn is located at 711 Main Street in Blowing Rock.

Tickets are $40 and may be purchased online at oasisinc.org or by sending a check to OASIS, Inc. P.O. Box 1591, Boone, NC 28607.
