Boone Film Festival Hosts 3rd Annual Festival, Beginning Friday, Oct. 12

Boone Film Festival will be hosting its third annual festival this year during the end of fall. The festival will showcase films with three different thematic categories: adventure, culture and environment. There is also a youth category for filmmakers 17 and under. There is an admission charge for the public.

While deadlines for film submissions have passed, the Boone Film Festival still encourages both filmmakers and those who enjoy film to attend events. Last year, over 600 people came to see films that had been screened.

This year, there have been over 50 submissions across a spectrum of 15 different U.S. states and seven different countries. Of the 50 submissions, 31 were selected to be screened at the festival, decided in September by a panel of 14 judges.

Unlike previous years, Boone Film Festival will take place during the latter part of fall. The first event starts this Friday, Oct. 12, with a screening of “Shred America” at Boone Saloon. On Oct. 30, there will be a free screening of the film “Hillbilly” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the I.G. Greer Theatre on Appalachian State University’s campus.

On Nov. 1, the best films from the youth category will be screened at the Ross Auditorium at Watauga High School; tickets will be sold through Mountain Alliance, a nonprofit organization that promotes youth leadership through service and adventure experiences.

Other events will take place Saturday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. A full schedule will is available on the Boone Film Festival website.

The best film in each category, as well as best youth film, will receive a $750 cash prize and the overall winner (“Best in Show”) will receive a $1,500 cash prize.
