Mountain Music Jam

Celebrate Southern Appalachian music with local musicians as they play traditional, Old Time and Bluegrass. All musicians are welcome, so bring your instrument and join in, or enjoy the view and entertainment. Participants will meet at the Outdoor Amphitheater Sunday, October 16th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. All programs are free and open to the public.

Jeff Yeager spent 24 years as a CEO and senior executive managing national nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC before launching his current career as a freelance writer, public speaker, and media personality in 2004. First dubbed the “Ultimate Cheapskate” by Matt Lauer on the NBC Today Showwhere Jeff occasionally appears as a guest correspondent, Yeager specializes in
an offbeat blend of original humor and practical advice for living a better life by spending and consuming less.

He is the author of four popular books about frugal living, including his most recent, How to Retire the Cheapskate Way. Jeff is AARP’s official Savings Expert, writing for AARP’s publications and hosting a weekly web show on YouTube – The Cheap Life – which is produced by AARP. He has appeared on over 500 radio and TV shows on most major networks, and was an original cast member on TLC’s hit reality show Extreme Cheapskates.

High Country Lifelong Learners Movie: Frost/Nixon

October 10th, 2016 – Watauga County Public Library – Meeting Room

High Country Lifelong Learners in association with the Watauga County Public Library invite you to join us for a movie viewing of Frost/Nixon on October 10th from 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm.

Director Ron Howard’s 2008 film, Frost/Nixon, is a dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon.

Stars: Frank Langella, Michael Sheen, Kevin Bacon

This film has an MPAA rating of R and an approximate run-time of 122 minutes.

Jurassic Station: The Journey of A Short Story

The Watauga County Public Library would like to invite you to join local authorCarl Jenkins for a workshop on how to publish a short story on Friday, October 7th at 3:30 PM.

Carl Jenkins is the author of two works of nonfiction and most recently his scifi story Jurassic Station was selected for inclusion in Scout Media’s anthology of short fiction entitled A Journey of Words. Please join him for a book signing and discussion of the writing, editing and publication processes.
