New classes at the Western Watauga Community/Senior Center in Sugar Grove:

GriefShare at Mount Vernon Sept. 7 – Dec. 14

Mount Vernon Baptist Church hosts GriefShare,
a grief support group on Wednesday evenings at6:30 pm. The fall 2016 session runs
Sept. 7 – Dec. 14.
New members are welcome and may join at anytime!
MVBC Minister of Education and Administration, Rev. Bud Russell, a seasoned GriefShare facilitator, leads this group.

Soil and Water Board to Meet Aug. 17

The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board” will hold its regular Board meeting Wednesday August 17, 2016 at 8:00 am at the Soil & Water Office located at 971 West King Street, Boone NC 28607.The public is invited to attend.

Overmountain Victory Celebration Free Educational Programs

Teachers & Homeschoolers

As part of the Overmountain Victory Celebration, two days are dedicated to providing educational opportunities to students.

Enjoy this free educational event with your students with demonstrations on colonial life and Revolutionary War history.

School Days will be held from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm on Thursday, Sept. 15 and Friday, Sept. 16, 2016.

Ranger led tours of the second floor of the former home of Moses and Bertha Cone. Tour is approximately 45 minutes long and reservations are required. To reserve a tour: call 828-295-3782 or sign up at the NPS information desk at the Manor House. Reservations are accepted beginning at 10:00am Friday for the upcoming weekend only. No advance reservations, please.

Republican Women to Meet Aug. 31

The Watauga County Republican Women’s Club (WCRWC) will have its next monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 31st at the Watauga County Republican Headquarters, 643-I Greenway Road, Greenway Business Park in Boone, NC. The meeting will begin at

noon. All interested in furthering the Republican cause in The High Country are welcome to attend and are invited to join.
