Farm Credit Photo Contest Deadline May 31

Time is Running Out!  The Carolina Farm Credit Photo Contest is closing soon entries must be submitted by May 31st to be eligible for voting.  Photos can be submitted on the Carolina Farm Credit Website.

Participants can submit up to three photos that are taken within the Carolina Farm Credit 54 county territory. The top photos will be chosen as finalists and will be displayed for voting on the Carolina Farm Credit website later this year. The top three winners will receive cash prizes and will be featured in the 2017 Carolina Farm Credit photo calendar. See the Carolina Farm Credit website for a complete list of contest rules.

Johnson County Community Theatre presents the Jones, Hope and Wooten comedy, “The Last Roundup of the Guacamole Queens”. The Verdeen cousins plan an all class high school reunion. Of course, nothing goes as planned, but earthquakes, explosions and a puppet sure make it interesting! Performed at Heritage Hall in Mountain City, TN on Friday June 3rd at 7pm and Saturday June 4th at 3pm and 7pm. Then again the next weekend June 10th and 11th at 7pm. Avery Habitat Open House May 31

Avery County Habitat for Humanity Open House in conjunction with Yadkin Bank/Cammy Pittman as well as the Avery County and Banner Elk Chambers of Commerce and Greater Newland Association

You are cordially invited to the open house at Avery County Habitat’s new office, 57 Taylor Rd, Newland.  Come and tour the new office, starting at 5:30pm, before enjoying Carolina BBQ and the magnificent bouquet of wines from Linville Falls Winery in the comfort of the Avery County Habitat ReStore just down the hill from the new office. Join us to thank the hard work of volunteers local and from afar to help bring Avery Habitat into its 25th year of building houses for working families in the county.

Summer Dance Series at Appalachian State May 31 – June 30

The Summer Dance Series sponsored by the Department of Theatre and Dance begins May 31 at Appalachian State University.

The series, which runs through June 30, will offer mixed beginning level classes featuring a variety of dance styles and bodywork classes. The classes are open to the public.
There will be African, tap, jazz, Greek dance, folk dance, creative movement, ballet, Pilates, yoga and much more.

Where: Room 208 Varsity Gym

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and some Fridays

Time: 5:30 p.m. (some classes will vary in length and be defined in the class descriptions).

These classes are open to all dancers and dance enthusiasts of all ages on campus and the local communities. The dance classes will be mixed beginning/intermediate levels with rotating teachers and dance styles for each class. Younger children ages 9 and under are welcome to attend with an adult. Parents may come and take classes with their children. There is no obligation to take all classes.

In lieu of a class fee, donations to the Visiting Artists and Dance Scholarship funds are welcome.
