Sarah Bohn, AIG teacher at Valle Crucis and Tyler Osmond,who took first place in regional Science Fair in the Junior Biological Science A Division. Bohn coordinated participation in the Science Fair for Valle Crucis.

Dr. Paul Holden, student services director, with school social workers Jennifer Wandler, Heather Holbrook, Megan Langdon, and Amy Michael; not shown: Denise Presnell The Board recognized school social workers in connection with National School Social Workers Week (March 7-11) and school counselors (no photo) in connection with National School Counseling Week (February 1-5) Holden said “I think that we have the finest student services staff in the state. They are the glue that helps connect all the different elements in the schools.”

Marie Bumgarner was presented with the Servant’s Heart Award by Dr. Scott Elliott (Transportation Director Jeff Lyons is on right). This award is presented each month to a Watauga County Schools employee that exhibits exemplary service. Mrs. Bumgarner has been driving a bus for Valle Crucis School for 24 years and she drives the longest route in the district three times a day, spending a total of 7 1/2 hours behind the wheel. She begins her first run at 5:15 a.m. and ends her last route after 6 p.m.

Left to right are students Molly Graham, Grace Sears, Jillian Russert, Isabella Holt, and Chris Heckle, all of whom advanced to state competition in science after their strong showings in regional science events. Chris won a first place in the regional Science Fair in technology while Isabella and Jillian took second in biology. Grace took second in biology and Molly claimed second in chemistry in the Student Academy of Sciences.
