The Faculty Recital Series Presents ‘An Evening of Encores’ on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at The Rosen Concert Hall

Sept. 4, 2013. The Faculty Recital Series in Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music presents “An Evening of Encores,” on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The recital begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission for this event is free and features works often performed as encores.

The recital opens with “Passacaglia on a Theme by George Frideric Handel” written by Johan Halvorsen and featuring violinist Nancy Bargerstock and violist Eric Koontz.

Trombonist Drew Leslie will perform “the Body Electric” by Shawn H. Milloway. Bassoonists Kim Wangler and Jon Beebe will perform “Una voce poco fa from The Barber of Seville.”

John Williams’ “Viktor’s Tale” from “The Terminal” will be performed by clarinetist Douglas Miller and pianist Bair Shagdaron, Rodney Reynerson will perform “Melancholie” by Francis Poulenc.

The Popular “Maria” from “West Side Story” will be performed by tenor John Fowler and pianist Susan Slingland. 

The program continues in a lighter vein with Ray Pizzi’s “Pussy Cat Song” performed by bassoonist Beebe and pianist Slingland. 

Rounding out the recital are performances by oboist Alicia Chapman, pianist Keith McCutchen, percussionist Rob Falvo and members of Appropos!, they Hayes School of Music’s faculty vocal ensemble.
