Duke to Chair NCATE Executive Board

July 25, 2012. Dr. Charles Duke has been appointed chairman of the executive board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Duke is the dean of the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University. 

His appointment as chairman was made by NCATE’s Coalition of Organizations for the Professional Preparation of Educators (COPPE). Duke also will serve as an ex-officio member of the executive board’s finance, personnel and membership committee.

Duke is a longstanding member of NCATE and has served the organization in a variety of leadership positions. He chaired and was a member of NCATE’s specialty area studies board and has been program reviewer since 1987 for English teacher education programs seeking national accreditation.

The executive board acts on recommendations made by boards and committees associated with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, which is a member of NCATE. The executive board’s actions relate to national accreditation of teacher education programs, setting standards for teacher education programs around country, and serving as a liaison with other agencies involved in teacher education.
