Two-Hour Delay for Watauga County Schools, Regular Schedule for Avery County Schools

Avery County Schools are operating on a regular schedule on Thursday, while Watauga County Schools are operating on a two-hour delay. See notices from school systems below:

Watauga County Schools

Schools will open with a two hour delay on Thursday, Jan. 28.  Buses will travel the same routes Thursday morning as on Wednesday afternoon.

Schools will be open on an early release schedule on Saturday, January 30th.  Students in the K-8 schools will be dismissed at 12:00 and the high school will let out at 1:00 on Saturday.  Lunch will be served and buses will run their usual routes.  The afterschool program will not be open.

Avery County Schools

At this time, the Avery County Schools are operating on a regular schedule on Thursday, Jan. 28. Buses will not run the following gravel roads: Buck Mountain, Reubin Wooten, John Greer, Old Beech Mtn., Sam Eller, Chestnut Dale, Staples Johnson, and Henson Creek.  Buses will not run the following paved roads: Gilliam, Birchfield Creek, Whitaker Branch, Martin’s Branch, and the upper part of Powdermill.  Students will meet the bus at the predetermined pick-up points and be cautious of areas where water is running across the road.
