Watauga Schools Operates on Two-Hour Delay and a Snow Day for Avery County Schools

Schools in the Watauga County Schools system are operating on a two-hour delay, while Avery County Schools are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Watauga County Schools:

Schools will open with a two hour delay for students and staff on Tuesday, January 26th.  Buses will travel limited routes A.

dSchools will be open on an early release schedule on Saturday, January 30th.  Students in the K-8 schools will be dismissed at 12:00 and the high school will let out at 1:00 on Saturday.  Lunch will be served and buses will run their usual routes.  The afterschool program will not be open Saturday.

Avery County Schools:

Due unsafe roads in areas of our county and the inability of our buses to operate on many secondary roads, the Avery County Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, January 26.  It is an optional workday for faculty and staff on a one-hour delay.

Snow Camp will be hosted at the YMCA for students in kindergarten through sixth grade from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
