Weekly Avery County Sheriff’s Brief – B&E at Old Beech Mountain Area, Statutory Rape Charge of ACS Student

Sept. 23, 2013. On Sept. 15, the Avery County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a breaking and entering from the area of Old Beech Mountain.  On Sept. 18, Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office interviewed a suspect in the matter.  The suspect made admissions about the theft.  Investigators are attempting to recover some of the stolen property.  An arrest in this matter is pending.



On Sept. 19, investigators with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Richard Rose of Elk Park Highway. Rose is charged with Statutory Rape of a juvenile female and is currently in the Avery County Jail under a $200,000 bond. Investigators began their investigation on Sept. 13 after they were notified of a possible sexual assault on a minor by School Officials with the Avery County School System.
