Boone Man Charged with Nine Counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor


February 28, 2019 On February 21, 2019, the Boone Police Department and Watauga County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a potential incident involving the sexual exploitation of minors. Detectives with both agencies began an investigation into the matter and pursuant to the investigation; a 22-year-old male by the name of Frank Darrell Cromwell was arrested. Frank Cromwell, of Boone, NC, was arrested on February 26 and charged five counts of Felony First Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and four counts of Felony Second Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Mr. Cromwell was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, where he was assigned a court date of March 22 and placed under a $100,000 secured bond.

Boone Police Make Arrests in Two Breaking and Entering Incidents from November


January 11, 2019. On November 27, 2018, Farmers Rental and Power Equipment was the victim of a break-in and then on November 28, 2018, High Country 4×4 was the victim of a break-in and thefts from numerous vehicles. As a result of investigations into both incidents three individuals were arrested on charges including felonious breaking and entering, injury to real property, injury to personal property and misdemeanor larceny. Brandon Alan Johnston, 27, of Lenoir, Jonathan Wesley Mays, 35, of Boomer and Ashley Danielle Mays, 34, of Boomer were charged following the investigation.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Foot Chase, Stolen Vehicles and Arrest in Ashe County


January 10, 2019. Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell reports the arrest of a Winston-Salem man and the recovery of five stolen vehicles after receiving a sport of a suspicious vehicle. On January 4, the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Warrensville. Upon arrival, Sgt. Chris Green discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from Winston-Salem. Sgt. Green began questioning the suspect, Junior Jack Cobbler. When questioned about the stolen vehicle, Cobbler ran from the responding deputies. After a brief foot chase, Sgt. Green, Deputies Aaron Scott and Nick Johnson apprehended Cobbler. Drug paraphernalia and additional stolen items were located inside the stolen vehicle. Cobbler, 48, of Winston-Salem was placed in the Ashe County Detention Center under a $14,000 secured bond. He was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, resisting a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Boone PD Searching for Male Suspect who Inappropriately Touched a Female at Speedway Gas Station


November 30, 2018. While tending to her tires, an unknown man approached her from behind and touched her buttocks. When the woman confronted the suspect, a Hispanic male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans, he left in his vehicle, a black Subaru station wagon. Images of the suspect and vehicle were captured on surveillance. Boone Police Are Searching For Armed Suspect Who Stole an SUV at Gunpoint

November 6, 2018 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: On November 5 at approximately 6:19 PM, a black male wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, and a bandana with a white pattern over his face, accosted a female at gunpoint in the parking area of 369 Madison Avenue. The suspect demanded the victim’s vehicle keys. The suspect left in her silver 2002 Nissan Xterra with North Carolina registration plate BHX-4369. The vehicle has an App State sticker across the top of the rear windows. The rear window also has a monogram sticker, a sigma alpha omega sticker, a red adventure sticker, and a contra dance sticker.
