Boone Man Charged After Firing Gun on Rivers Street Thursday Night

July 12, 2021. On Thursday night, July 8, 2021 at 11:15 p.m., the Boone Police Department responded to a report of shots fired from a vehicle into the air on Rivers Street near the intersection with Bodenheimer Drive. No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the shooting. The suspect was identified as Anthony Martinez Grimes, age 47, of Boone. On July 9, investigators executed a search warrant at Grimes’ residence located at 197 Summer Drive in Boone. A handgun and ammunition consistent with shell casings recovered from the scene were seized. Upon completion of the initial investigation and interview, Anthony Martinez Grimes was charged with Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Going Armed to the Terror of the People, and Discharging of a Firearm within City Limits. He was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, where he was given a $20,000 secured bond and a court date of August 10, 2021.

Navarette Charged for July 3 Shooting on Boone’s King Street

July 6, 2021. Joseph James Navarette, age 24, of 240 Locklear St., Mount Airy, NC, was arrested and charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with a shooting on downtown Boone’s King Street Saturday, July 3. Navarette is being held in Watauga County Jail under a $1 million secured bond and awaits an August 13 court date in the county. At 10:04 a.m., 911 calls indicated that a male driving a white Toyota pickup was traveling west and “randomly firing from the vehicle,” according to a statement from the Boone Police Department. Boone Patrol Officers immediately responded to the 300 block of West King Street, near the area of First Baptist Church for reported gunfire. By Tim Gardner

High Country Crime Stoppers Looking for Street Sign Thieves; 23 Signs Stolen in Boone

March 3, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: During the weeks of February 8 through February 19, a total of 23 street and parking signs were stolen from several different neighborhoods within the Town of Boone. The neighborhoods affected are the streets around Highland Avenue and Stadium Drive as well as streets around Windy Drive and Yosef Drive. The total cost for the Town of Boone to replace these signs is $920. Crime Stoppers Searching for Suspects Involved in Thefts at Two Local Businesses


February 26, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: During the daytime hours of February 23, 2021, the Boone Police Department responded to two reports of theft at retail establishments, suspected to have been committed by the same two individuals. Two white males, in their twenties, were observed inside of Mast General Store (630 West King Street) and are suspected of stealing more than $700.00 worth of merchandise. The same two males are suspected of theft, in excess of $2500.00 worth of art supplies, from Cheap Joe’s Art Supply (374 Industrial Park Drive). The two males were captured on surveillance footage and were last observed leaving the area of West King Street, Boone, in a white Kia sedan.

Crime Stoppers Seeks Help Identifying Suspect in Boone Drug Breaking and Entering


February 10, 2021 High Country Crime Stoppers and Boone Police seek the public’s assistance in solving the following crime: On Saturday Morning February 6 an unknown suspect broke into Boone Drug at New Market Centre. After gaining entry to the store, the suspect took items from the pharmacy and fled in a black passenger car. The suspect is described as having a thin build, around five feet ten inches tall. He is wearing a dark hooded jacket with a zipper in the front, athletic pants, black shoes with white soles, and a blue medical mask.
