A resident of the High Country was arrested after the Avery Municipal Drug Task Force and the Boone Police Department seized nearly three pounds of marijuana on Aug. 27, the Avery County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday.

Officer Shane Vance with the Avery Municipal Drug Task Force wouldn’t divulge the suspect’s name or address on Wednesday afternoon, citing that the agency hoped to see “whether he cooperates or not.”

“That’s usually how we do things,” Vance said.

The suspect, who was selling marijuana in Avery and Watauga counties, was receiving marijuana here from Colorado through the U.S. Postal Service. A release said that the suspect would then sell marijuana in “different avenues throughout the United States” and the High Country.

Vance said that law enforcement had their eyes on this individual for about three to four months.

In addition to the seizure of almost three pounds of marijuana, the joint operation between the drug task force and police department netted an undisclosed amount of cash and a vehicle used to sell marijuana.
