Banner Elk Man Charged With Felony Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Being a Fugitive from Indiana

Jan. 11, 2013. Boone Police have charged Nicholas Lee Mattingly, age 55, of Banner Elk, NC with one count of Felony Possession of Stolen Property as well as being a Fugitive From Justice. Mr. Mattingly is alleged to have stolen a Jeep Cherokee in Indiana, before making his way to Boone.

Mr. Mattingly was also wanted in Indiana for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and the Infraction offenses of Driving While Suspended and Expired Plates. Mr. Mattingly had agreed to come to the Boone Police Department, to discuss other police matters, when he was observed driving the stolen Jeep. Mr. Mattingly was subsequently taken into custody for the aforementioned charges.

Mr. Mattingly was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, where he was assigned a court date of February 26th, 2013 and held under a $65,000 secured bond.
