Women in Leadership: You Still Have Time to Register for Thursday’s Round Robin Event

By Jessica Isaacs | jessica@highcountrypress.com

Ladies, mark your calendars for May 19 and sign up today to participate in the second annual Round Robin get-together hosted by Watauga Women in Leadership!

Wine and dine, catch up with neighbors and make new connections in the community at this “speed networking” event, which will bring together local women from all ages, all industries and all walks of life.

The Meadowbrook Inn will play host to the event again this year, and participants will enjoy food from the inn, desserts from Ugga Mugga Bakery, wines from The Country Vintner and a great cash bar.

This business version of speed dating will pair women together for one minute of one-on-one conversation. You’ll get to know the person across the table from you as best you can, and when time is up you’ll change places and meet someone new!

More than 100 women showed up for last year’s round robin, and event coordinators are expecting an even larger crowd this time around. To accommodate a larger group, participants will be separated into three groups for speed networking.

“This is your time to let people know who you are, but also to learn something about them,” said Barbara Armstrong, director of operations for the Boone Chamber and one of several leaders of the WWIL organization. “We want everyone to walk away with at least a handful of people they will get together with for lunch, have a business meeting with or reconvene to get to know each other better because they have similar interests. That’s the whole goal.”

Guests will bring and contribute items that represent their companies and their roles in the community, which will then be up for grabs at the silent auction.

Local real estate brokers Margo Lenmark and Anne Rasheed will return as emcees and auctioneers.

Grab your business cards and get ready to make some new friends!

“Not only will you make business acquaintances at the event, but you’ll make friends, too. People are definitely the driving force behind business in the High Country,” Armstrong said. “I can’t say enough great things about the people here in Boone and their hearts. Together we are strong.”

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Speed networking will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and the 6:30 p.m. dessert and auction will wrap up the festivities.

Tickets for the event are on sale for just $10. All proceeds will cover the costs of this event and provide further events in the future.
