Jan. 25, 2013. In addition to all the area schools closing today due to the severe winter weather conditions, several local businesses and even the Boone town offices are reporting that they will be closing early today.

Virtually every bank in the Boone area is either already closed or will be closing within the next hour or so. Additionally, Earth Fare will be closing at 4 p.m. and many other businesses are reporting early closings.

Even the Boone Town Offices plan to close today at 3 p.m. due to rapidly deteriorating road conditions.

Due to the inclement weather in the High Country, the third annual Appalachian Open wrestling event has also been canceled for tomorrow. The tournament will not be made up, as the Mountaineers return to the mats on Sunday, Feb. 3 against Chattanooga.

As for the weather forecast, based on some of the current radar maps it appears the winter storm will be set in for the remainder of the afternoon but The Weather Channel is saying precipitation will taper off by about 3:15 p.m. When it will actually end and just how bad the roads will be once it is over is still anyone’s guess at the moment.
