Wine To Water, Local Businesses Teaming Up For the United Nations’ World Water Day, March 22

March 16, 2012. BOONE – On Thursday, March 22, Wine To Water of Boone – a non-profit charitable organization — and local businesses are teaming up to celebrate World Water Day. The event focuses on spreading awareness of the importance of fresh water and the need for sustainable management of fresh water resources.

“There’s no question that the global water crisis is the greatest crisis in our world right now,” said Doc Hendley, founder and president of Wine To Water. “The problem is, not many people know about it and how bad it really is.  This is why World Water Day is such an important day for our organization. World Water Day is continuing to get more recognition in the media every year, which, in our eyes, is half the battle.”

Since 1993, International World Water day has been held annually on March 22 by the United Nations. Each year nearly 10,000 children under the age of 5 in Third World countries die as a result of illnesses contracted by use of impure water. The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.

“We believe that once people know the truth about the staggering numbers of water related deaths among children around the world and how easily preventable they are, then more people will be anxious to join us in this fight,” said Hendley

To help support Wine To Water for this year’s World Water Day, stop by Eric’s Cheese and Wine, Peabody’s Wine and Beer Merchants, Savory Thymes or Harris Teeter and pick up a bottle of Wine To Water wines.

Galileo’s will host the ASU Wine To Water Club for a wine tasting, with a percentage of the proceeds coming back to Wine To Water. The TApp Room and the Mellow Mushroom in Boone and Blowing Rock will also be donating part of their daily profits to Wine To Water on March 22.
