Aug. 23, 2013. Development of a corner of the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot has begun.
Brenda Henson of the Town of Boone Planning and Inspections office confirmed that the Chipotle Mexican Grill and Mattress Firm will occupy the finished development.
In February, South Carolina-based Columbia Development Group, LLC, appeared before the Community Appearance Commission to request an exemption from a section of the town’s Unified Development Ordinance, so the primary façade and main entrance to the building faces towards Lowes – and not U.S. 321.
At the time a spokesperson for Columbia Development Group wouldn’t shed any light on the development. According to February’s meeting packet, the development consisted of a 6,200-square-foot building. 4,000-square-feet of that space would be for retail and the remaining 2,200 square feet would be for a quick service restaurant.
According to the conceptual plan, the building is 50-feet deep with 124 feet parallel with U.S. 321 on a .71-acre parcel. Also, 42 parking spaces were noted.
Chipotle Mexican Grill has more than 1,500 restaurants in the United States, Canada and overseas. Danielle Winslow, a spokesperson for Chipotle, wrote in an email that the Mexican chain expects to open in Boone in the first quarter of 2014.
Mattress Firm, which sells bedding products, operates 1,100 locations in 28 states, according to the company’s website.
