Aug. 25, 2014. “Con-graduations” to 24 of Watauga’s best and brightest who graduated from the 2014 Watauga Leadership Challenge.
The Watauga Leadership Challenge is an innovative leadership development program sponsored by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce designed to meet our county’s need for the active participation of informed and educated leaders. The goal of the program is to identify potential leaders and provide them with the community information and encouragement needed to spur local action and involvement. Graduates are challenged to apply their talents throughout the community by becoming a part of community organizations, including public and private boards, nonprofit groups, civic clubs and The Chamber.
The missing of the Watauga Leadership Challenge is the continued improvement of our community. The profile of our towns and county is changing and today’s leaders need to have access to timely information. Visits with community and government leaders offer opportunities to interact with those affecting change. The four-month long program enables participants to gain a realistic understanding of how our community works and help create an awareness of our community’s current issues and interests. Participants are encouraged to explore the community and challenged to become involved in the issues that affect them.
This year’s graduation class includes the following: Virginia Falk, Ben Norman, Taylor Williams, David Still, Keith Shockley, Tomie Miller, Erin Thompson, Whitney Harper, Liz Greer, Josh Jarman, Barbara Armstrong, Bill Caroselli, Sherrie Starnes, Brianne Harris, Lauren Fontaine, Carrie Eller, Terry Olsen, Carolina McGuire, David Cook, Sharon Lane, Sarah Tscherpel, Beth Satterfield, Jane Blackburn and Joe Cazier.
