Watauga Humane Society’s 32nd Annual Rummage Sale A Huge Success; Declared the Best One Yet

by Madison V. Fisler

June 24, 2013. The money may not be all counted up yet, but the Watauga Humane Society is comfortable calling this year’s Rummage Sale the best one yet.

“We cannot thank our volunteers, staff and community enough for helping to make this happen,” said Dee Dundon, who coordinated the event, and has for the past few decades.

imgres-113The sale, which occurred over the weekend on June 22 and 23, utilized the help of 30 volunteers to raise money to cover the operating expenses of the Watauga Humane Society. All of the proceeds go toward paying for food for the animals, water, electricity for the building, veterinary expenses and everything else that it takes to successfully operate the shelter.

Last year, the rummage sale raised over $18,000 for the humane society. This year, they hope to have raised even more.

This year, the Watauga Humane Society is pleased to have helped various other non-profit organizations through their Rummage sale, including Hospitality House, the Hebron Colony, Horn in the West and more.

“Boone is such an amazing community,” Dundon said.

“When you think of how many charities are out there and how many organizations need money, its amazing to know that everyone still thinks about the animals.”

The Rummage Sale was so successful, as it has been in the past, that the Humane Society is already looking forward to doing it all again next year, for year 33!
