June 21, 2012. This Saturday vendors at the Watauga County Farmer’s Market will be offering a wide selection of some common and uncommonly found organic and locally grown meats and produce.

Smoked Chicken Halves, chicken egg rolls, chicken cannelloni with roasted red pepper béchamel, lamb bratwurst, kielbasa and Cajun sausages, whole chickens, and chicken breasts will be available. All meats, and produce are organically raised, GMO and pesticide free.  Fresh lavender and lavender sachets from Shady Grove Gardens will also be on sale. In addition, handcrafted Root Beer and the homemade soda of the week will be available from Wild Pilgrim Farmstead.

Zydeco Moon Organic Farm will have heirloom tomatoes; sugar snap peas, butter crunch lettuce, carrots, beets, and spring onions at their booth. Moretz Mountain Orchard will have “pesticide free” black raspberries, Swiss chard, lettuces, beets, huckleberries and possibly a few transparent apples.

There will also be arts and crafts for sale.

Blacksmith Tom Wooten of Fiddler Forge will be selling hand-forged solid steel plant hangers, bird feeders & whirligig wind vanes.

Plants for sale include theme garden plants like “The Medicine Garden,” and “The White Flower Garden,” pots of herbs, remaining pepper plants, and flowering annuals from Shelton and Nodding Violet Farm.

The market launched its new Token Program this year. You can swipe your Credit, Debit, and EBT cards at the manager’s booth for market tokens. The tokens can be spent at any vendor who displays Beet Bucks and Carrot Credit signs.  To promote the new program, the first 10 people to swipe their EBT cards at any market in June will receive a $10 gift certificate to the market!

Watauga County Farmers’ Market is held every, rain or shine, Saturday morning 8 a.m. to noon May through October and every Wednesday morning 8 a.m. to noon June through September at the Horn in the West Parking Lot at Daniel Boone Park.
