Want A Sneak Peak of Changes to Boone’s Controversial UDO? Chamber’s Lunch and Learn Series Friday

By Jesse Wood

Jan. 30, 2013. Want a free lunch and a sneak preview of potential changes to the Town of Boone’s controversial Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)?

ChamberOfCommerceCheck out the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn series on Friday, Feb. 1, at noon in the Boone Town Council Chambers on Blowing Rock Road.

The UDO is a consolidation of most of the town’s ordinances and regulations related to the development and use of property into one document, and this event offers an opportunity to preview the UDO before it is sent to public workshops in February for public review and to the Boone Town Council in March for official adoption.

“Proposed changes include radical restructuring to make it easier to find things, change of language to plain English to make it easier to understand, elimination of contradictions and inconsistencies, and consolidating all definitions into one place and reorganizing sections by grouping them by topics,” according to a Boone Area Chamber press release. “This has the effect of reducing the overall size of the document, making it more user friendly for both customers and staff and promoting consistent enforcement.”

(The Templeton Family has blasted the UDO in the past, for one because the UDO stood in the way of the proposed medical clinic on State Farm Road that was proposed initially six years ago.)

A free box lunch will be provided, but you must RSVP by email at info@boonechamber.com or by phone at 828-264-2225.

Seating is limited, but spots are still available as of Wednesday morning. Boone Area Chamber recommends contacting them immediately to secure a seat and free lunch.
