One of Linville Ridge’s premier restaurants within the mountaintop community has reopened after a complete renovation. It was the first major renovation of the ridge-top space since it was completed in 1984. “The update, was long overdue,” stated Scott Lutgert, owner and developer of Linville Ridge. “Our loyal members are very important to us,” Lutgert added. “All of the changes we’ve made are focused on continuing to give them a quality experience in the mountains.”
In naming the newly renovated space, Simone Lutgert added, “We couldn’t help but focus on what is so prevalent when you walk into the restaurant. It’s all about the 180-degree view of Grandfather mountain and the surrounding valleys, so ‘View 180’ was the most fitting.”

Bill Dixon, of Appalachian Architecture, P.A., in Boone, NC, and his team were tasked with creating a new look to reflect a contemporary mountain style that will appeal to all club members, improve access from theporte-cochère to the dining area by eliminating a half flight of stairs and to make the space more efficient. With a renovation of this magnitude, Dixon stated that “one of the biggest challenges was the daily surprises they encountered. The actual field conditions often varied from the original 1984 drawings, but our local presence combined with the collaboration with the Blowing Rock-based general contractors Enterline & Russell Builders, allowed us to meet on site, and on short notice, to address the unexpected.”
Interior Designers Stan Topol and Reynolds Brown, of Stan Topol & Associates in Atlanta, GA, were invited to come up with a concept in order to translate the space into as a warm and friendly refuge for members and their guests, and to attract the next generation. “It’s part of an evolution for the Club’s future.” Brown stated. “After years of designing restaurants and hotels, the current trends are showing that people are looking for a more casual and less formal experience,” Brown added. With that in mind, Topol stated that “together with the Lutgerts, we stood back and thought about what was most important, besides the incredible view of course, and we came up with ‘comfort is the ultimate luxury’.”

Linville Ridge celebrated View 180’s brand new look on Saturday, June 11, 2016, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a sold out member event for the grand re-opening. Members were greeted with new gabled roofs, stone columns, oak floors with natural distressing, custom made light fixtures, a new wine cellar, comfortable chairs with arms, banquette seating and an indoor/outdoor bar which opens out to an enlarged deck. Walther Vliegen, General Manager of Linville Ridge, said that “before the restaurant was an underutilized venue, but with this renovation it will be bustling with activity and provide a special place for dinners, club events, weddings, luncheons, corporate meetings, anniversary/birthday parties and so much more!”
