Two Bojangles’ Restaurants in Boone? Community Appearance Commission Hears UDO Deviation Request

By Jesse Wood

July 23, 2013. Two Bojangles’ restaurants in Boone?

That looks possible as William Pugh, a civil engineer with the Charlotte-based Isaacs Group, P.C., is requesting, on behalf of Bojangles’, a deviation from the town’s Unified Development Ordinance for a building on a vacant lot that is located on U.S. 421 and adjacent from the existing Advanced Auto Parts.

BojanglesIn that particular lot, Perkinsville Drive runs parallel with U.S. 421.

The request will appear before the Town of Boone’s Community Appearance Commission on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers on Blowing Rock Road.

The deviation pertains to building orientation. Pugh’s is “requesting an alternative design with the main building entry way facing away from the primary public way which is U.S. 421,” according to a memo in the meeting’s packet.

“The Commission may approve such alternatives if it finds the alternatives involved meet the purpose and intent of the provisions contained within this article,” the memo in the packet states.

The 1.3-acre lot is owned by Highlands Union Bank, according to Watauga County Register of Deeds. The land value, according to the tax maps, is $467,900.
