Tweetsie Railroad to Host Auditions and Job Fair; Seeking Entertainers and Park Operations Personnel for 2014

by Rachel Emily Auton

Jan. 22, 2014. One of the High Country’s characteristic attractions and North Carolina’s first theme park, Tweetsie Railroad, is now hiring for its upcoming 2014 season.

Auditions for entertainers and performers will be held Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Tweestie Railroad Palace.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Auditions were originally to be held on the campus of Appalachian State University but will now be held on the park grounds.

Tweetsie is seeking singers, dancers, actors and specialty acts including cloggers, magicians and equestrians with positive attitudes and people skills to portray Cowboys and other Wild West characters.

“Acting, singing, dance, and movement are not required but are given special consideration,” said Leah Knepper, PR representative for Tweetsie Railroad.

Audition requirements for general entertainers include the performance of a one-minute monologue, a song and simple movement/dance exercises. Tweetsie is prepared to provide monologue scripts and sheet music on site for those in need.

Clogging auditions will be held separately on Sunday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Tweetsie Railroad Pavilion.

More details and audition requirements for specialty performers such as magicians or equestrians can be found on Tweetsie’s website. For those who will be unable to attend auditions, Tweetsie is accepting video audition submissions. Directions for video submissions can also be found on Tweetsie’s website.

For non-entertainers seeking seasonal employment at Tweetsie Railroad, Tweetsie’s annual job fair will be held on March 1 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Palace Saloon on the park grounds. Non-entertainment positions include ticket sales, accounting, ride operations, food services, retail sales, security, ground maintenance, first aid and more. All those interested in seasonal employment should plan to attend the job fair with a completed application.

Employment at Tweetsie boasts benefits such as competitive wages, complimentary tickets, employee discounts, staff events and passes to other theme parks and attractions as well as a unique and enjoyable work environment.

The Wild West theme park, which opened in 1957, hosts a variety of live shows, rides and attractions, food and gift shops and two fully functioning, authentic steam trains.

Tweetsie’s performance season runs from late spring to late fall.

“This season opens April 11, the last day will be Nov. 2,” said Knepper. “Throughout the season, there are several special events. We do a big July fourth celebration, which also happens to be Tweetsie’s birthday.”

Tweetsie will be 57 this year.
