Dec. 21, 2012. Just in time for Christmas, Blowing Rock couple Tom and Tina Barrett and their granddaughter Jane dropped off a truckload of toys at Haircut 101 in downtown Boone for Santa’s Toy Box.
The gifts included four bicycles, two tricycles and so many more toys that boys and girls will enjoy playing with on Christmas morning.

The Barretts bought a bunch of toys for kids last year as well, starting what will likely become an tradition for years to come.
“We just try to buy a few things for the little guys,” Mr. Barrett said. “It’s just good to give, and it’s important to share. Hopefully, this is will motivate some other people.”
Santa’s Toy Box was started in 1986 by the men’s group at Deerfield Methodist Church, and since that time has become a successful annual community project. Last year, more than 928 less-fortunate children through the age of 15 had a brighter Christmas because of Santa’s Toy Box.
Santa’s Toy Box has thrived over the years because of countless donations from individuals, businesses and churches. This year, Haircut 101 partnered with Santa’s Toy Box and offered a free $10 Gift Card to anyone that brought in a new, unwrapped toy worth at least $10 in value.
In a press release, Haircut 101 stated, “We believe that giving back to our community is one of the most important things we can do.”

In addition to toys, Santa’s Toy Box also accepts volunteers and cash donations that are used to take parents shopping for presents.
Donations can be brought to Haircut 101, located at 174 S. Depot Street in downtown Boone or mailed to: Santa’s Toy Box, P.O. Box 1337, Boone, NC 28607.
Santa’s Toy Box is located on George Wilson Road in Boone NC and began shelving, assembling and distributing toys earlier in the month. Call 828 264 4801 for more information.
