May 30, 2013. The WNC Shriners are returning to Blowing Rock May 31 through June 2, bringing their Summer Ceremonial and attendant parade to the town for the fourth time in five years. The colorful and traditional Shriners Parade will take place along Main Street starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, providing residents and visitors a musical and visual treat.
The Summer Ceremonial will bring hundreds of members of the Charlotte-based WNC Oasis Shrine together for a weekend of activities to celebrate the induction of new members. Chetola Resort will be the Shriners’ host hotel, but attendees will fill hundreds of additional rooms throughout the town. Blowing Rock merchants will be offering specials and discounts to the visiting Shriners and the Shriners will set up a trailer in Memorial Park to provide information about their philanthropic work in support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
“Having the Shriners in town is great fun for everyone, but along with the fun is an infusion of tourist dollars that benefits us all, whether or not we watch the parade. The return of the Oasis Shrine and its Summer Ceremonial is a boon to town merchants, hoteliers and restaurateurs and we’re grateful for their repeat visitation,” said Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Blowing Rock TDA.
The Saturday parade will include the famous Shriners little cars, Oasis Clowns, Gator Patrol, Dune Cats and Scooter Patrol, along with the Oasis Band.
