The Local Hosts ‘Dance Your Resolution’ NYE Party Featuring Dirty Laundry with Inverted Sea Dec. 31

By Madison Fisler Lewis

Dec. 29, 2014. The Local – downtown Boone’s hottest new venue for live music and great food – will host a special evening on New Year’s Eve, featuring live music, champagne, a special menu and the restaurant’s regular menu served all day and night.

New years eve band posterLive music for the evening will be provided by the eclectic sounds of Dirty Laundry featuring Judi Jackson and Inverted Sea, said Local owner Jean Borhman.

“Starting at 10 p.m., we will have two bands performing live music,” she said. “The cover charge for the music is just $5 for both bands, so it is a really good deal.”

From the bands’ biographies:

Inverted Sea
Since early 2011, Inverted Sea has become a collective of artists both musical and other in and around the Boone area. The current vision of Inverted Sea finds its origins in the heart and creative mind of Jeremiah Brown, is guided by the rhythm and groove of Everett Thomas and Jason Burch, and pushes its ultimate expression through the chemistry of Jared McQueen and others. Our live shows frequently include live paintings and other performance artists, as well as additional guest lyricists and instrumentalists.

Dirty Laundry
Based out of Greensboro, Dirty Laundry is a heap of new, eclectic sounds that are held together by the classic golden grooves of the past. Though all are students or alumni from the University of North Carolina Greensboro’s Miles Davis Jazz Program, this eight-piece funk group shows influence of a variety of music including jazz, rock, afro-cuban and soul. Each member of the group brings a different element to the wash, from James Brown and Charles Mingus to Led Zeppelin and Van Halen, but everything comes together in the band’s common spirit. “We want to make music that people can easily listen to and dance, but at the same time leave them with a higher musical experience,” said bassist and leader Alex Bingham. “It’s thoughtful music that makes you want to get up out of your chair and groove.”

In addition to the live music, drink specials will be available to celebrate the festive occasion, along with a special New Year’s Eve menu that will be served alongside the regular restaurant menu all night and day.

“We want to stress that we will also be serving our regular menu that night,” Borhman said. “We want to offer our normal, full menu too, in case people prefer to come and get some burgers or pizza.”

The special New Year’s Eve Dinner menu will be served starting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. Three courses and a glass of champagne is just $29.95 per person. The menu includes the following:

Choice of salad (grilled caesar or arugula salad), choice of entree (beef risotto or surf and turf) and choice of dessert (creme brulee or chocolate torte). Each dinner comes with a glass of champagne to toast to a new year.

The Local is located at 179 Howard St. in downtown Boone. For more information about this event, or for reservations, call 828-266-2179 or visit www.TheLocalBoone.com.
