June 27, 2013. On Saturday, July 6, the Watauga County Firefighters Association will host the inaugural Stop! Drop! and Roll! 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. The event will start and end at the Boone Fire Department Station #2 on State Farm Road, rain or shine.
Early registration for each participant, before July 3, is $15 and late registration is $20. Participants can register online here.
There will be a chance for registered participants to win great door prizes during the event. Parking will be available behind the Fire Department at the intersection of State Farm Road and Huntington Lane. Refreshments will be provided for participants after they finish the 5K. T-shirts will be available on a first come first served basis.
All proceeds from the 5K will be split between the Watauga County Firefighters Association and the North Carolina Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund. Funds will also be used as funding for an educational scholarship to graduating high school students who plan to pursue careers in emergency services.
The Watauga Firefighters Association consists of 14 fire departments in Watauga County. The fire departments promote training and education for all firefighters throughout the county as well as promote and raise money for graduating high school students who plan to pursue careers in emergency services.
The North Carolina Firefighters’ Burned Children’s Fund is a non-profit organization developed by area firefighters to support burn survivors and help prevent burn injuries before they occur.The Watauga County Chapter of the North Carolina Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund assists families and burned victims within Watauga or surrounding counties. The Watauga County Chapter of the Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund also donates money each year to UNC MEdical Center and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
