Rainelle Meridith renders flowers in bold colors with single blooms covering the entire canvas. Coming from a family of artists and architects, Meridith began drawing and painting at a very early age. Her beautiful perennial flower beds and garden provide the subject matter for many of her paintings, as the use of bold oil colors and luminosity give her paintings a feeling of liveliness and joy.

The still life paintings of Mary Dobbin are full of life. Although she focuses on stationary objects, her goal for the painting is to project energy and movement through lively lines and intense colors. Dobbin’s painting of a vase of bold red zinnias on a cobalt blue and black table cloth exemplifies her talent for composition and attention to detail.

Dobbin earned a BFA from the University of NC – Chapel Hill and a MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. After living many years in North Carolina, she now resides in New York City and plans to participate in a three-woman show, “Sharing the Muse,” at Carlton Gallery with an Artists’ Opening Reception on Sept. 28 from 2-5 p.m.

Local artist, Debbie Arnold’s floral paintings are created by her newly developed technique where acrylic paints are poured onto sheets of plastic. Her floral designs are rendered on these sheets after which they are adhered to canvas with gel medium. Arnold’s “Iris Flow” paintings on exhibit gleam with complementary colors and eye catching originality.

“Hydrangea” and “Spring Blossoms” are watercolor paintings by Freeman Beard that portray the beauty of flora in spring. Beard is a gifted watercolor artist whose approach to painting is interest in the subject and then its essence to make a painting, His style is realistic impressionism which allows for individual interpretation in his paintings.

Everyone is invited to visit Carlton Gallery during its continuing 31st Spring Group Exhibition which runs through July 23 to view the floral paintings by Rainelle Meridith, Mary Dobbins, Debbie ARnold and Freeman Beard. The “Approaching the Edge of Color” exhibition of abstracted landscapes by Andrew Braitman can also be seen through July 21.

The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and seven miles north of Linville on NC 105 in the Grandfather Mountain Community. Workshops in painting, mixed media and expressive arts are held weekly by gallery artists who teach and enjoy helping others experience their profound creativity.
