The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Releases Many Exciting Events and Exhibits Planned for 2014

Jan. 16, 2014. It’s a brand new year and the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum  has stuffed 2014 full of exciting events and unique artistic opportunities. The BRAHM is known for exciting exhibits, enjoyable events and many other exciting opportunities throughout the year. Read on to ensure that you don’t miss a single one of the exciting things to do. 

BRAHM logoJan. 16 marks the Watauga High School Art Show Reception from 5-6 p.m. at the BRAHM. This free event will serve as the opening ceremony for the collection of works by Watauga High School students which will remain in exhibition through February. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. 

Jan. 23, Cocoa on Canvas will be showcased at the BRAHM from 5-7 p.m. as the kickoff of Blowing Rock’s WinterFest celebration. This fun painting workshop requires no previous experience or extensive artistic skill, and will include hot cocoa for participants. This event is expected to fill up fast, and costs $35 for BRAHM members and $40 for other participants. Call Leila at 828-295-9099 ext. 3006 to register.

On Friday, Jan. 24, the History of Skiing Exhibition will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. This exhibit takes a look at the High Country’s ski industry from its humble beginnings to the booming industry it has become. The exhibit features photographs, resort histories, historical gear and more. 

Looking forward into February, the BRAHM invites visitors to come enjoy the museum on Feb. 15 for Valentine’s Rocks in Blowing Rock. The museum will celebrate the occasion with half-price admission for the day as well as ten percent off of items in the gift shop.

On Feb. 22, join the BRAHM to celebrate Mardi Gras in style at the Mardi Gras Masquerade. Enjoy live jazz and cajun inspired cuisine and great activities from 7-10 p.m. Be sure to wear your best masquerade mask to get in the running for Carnival Queen or King! Tickets for this event are $50 per person.

The BRAHM will kick off an activity-filled March with an Expressive Arts Roundtable Discussion on March 19 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This roundtable discussion and coffee will center around the current “The Painted Song” exhibit featuring works by the “High Country Van Gogh” Wiili Armstrong. This free event will focus on art therapy with Appalachian State University’s Department of Human Development and Psychological Services. 

March 22 will be a free family day at the BRAHM, to celebrate the first day of spring. Join the museum to learn about springtime in Appalachia. This family fun day is great for all ages, with special kids activities all day along with crafts, refreshments and old-time music. 

As always, admission to the BRAHM is free on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m.
